You assemble it, and the assembly changed in price twice this summer: ESPN announced its first increase since launching its direct-to-consumer service, and Peacock raised every tier. The table below is the current US stack, with what each service leaves out stated as plainly as what it includes.

Practical rule: price the hours you actually watch, not the tournament.If you only ever watch Sunday afternoons, Paramount+ Essential at $8.99 covers most of your golf year. If you watch Thursday mornings, no cheap tier reaches you — that is Golf Channel territory, and Golf Channel costs live-TV-package money. Golf Channel is the hole in every cheap golf plan

Golf Channel carries the largest share of live golf hours in the United States and almost none of the cheap streaming tiers include it. It holds the early-round and early-weekend coverage of every FedExCup event, and in January 2026 it extended its deal to remain the exclusive US television home of the DP World Tour through 2030 — close to 600 hours of live tournament coverage a year on its own. If you want European tour golf in the US, that is the only door.

The trap is the NBC connection. Peacock is NBCUniversal's streaming service, Golf Channel is an NBCUniversal channel, and the reasonable conclusion — that a Peacock subscription therefore gets you Golf Channel — is wrong. Peacock carries NBC's golf and some streaming-only windows; it does not carry Golf Channel as a live channel. The routes that do:

• →A live-TV streaming package: Golf Channel is carried by Sling TV, Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and DIRECTV. These are cable replacements priced like cable, not like a streaming app.
• →DIRECTV's sports genre pack: Golf Channel is included with the CHOICE plan and above, the DIRECTV Sports Pack add-on, or the MySports genre pack — the cheapest of the traditional-provider routes.
• →Traditional pay TV: if you already have a cable or satellite package with a sports tier, you almost certainly already have it, and adding a streaming service on top buys you feeds rather than hours.
• →Nothing free: there is no free, legal, full-time Golf Channel stream. Sites that promise one are not carrying a licensed feed.

The UK is the mirror image: nearly everything sits behind one subscription

Where the US splits golf across four bills, the UK concentrates it into one. Sky Sports holds live rights to all four men's majors, and it has locked in the tours around them: a four-year extension with the PGA TOUR signed in December 2025 runs UK and Ireland coverage to 2029, the DP World Tour stays on Sky Sports and NOW until at least the end of 2029, and the Masters was extended with Augusta National for further years as an exclusive. Ofcom separately approved Sky's exclusive live coverage of The Open through 2027.

For a viewer, that produces a much simpler arithmetic — and a much less flexible one. Almost all the golf is in one place, which also means there is no cheaper partial option to fall back on. The exception is LIV Golf, which sits with TNT Sports in the UK for 2026 after previously being free-to-air on ITVX.

Practical rule: the cheapest golf market is not the same market every year.A UK viewer stacking NOW at £34.99 and a US viewer stacking ESPN, Peacock and a live-TV package are solving the same problem with opposite structures. The BMW Championship moves to Liberty National in New Jersey, and a new event, the Sompo Championship, lands on 26 July–1 August.

Free golf is thinner than the “free stream” headlines suggest

Search for any tournament and you will find a page promising a free stream. Most of them are describing a free trial, a highlights package, or something unlicensed. Golf genuinely does have free routes — there are just four of them that survive checking, and each one has a limit written into it.

The fourth card matters as much as the first three.
