Here are its four location rules, what changes when you travel inside the US, the 2026 prices, and the official ways to follow US sport abroad. [This never affects our rankings.](https://vpnrank.io/how-we-test) ![A traveller watching a live football match on a phone in an airport lounge, with a VPN shield icon indicating a home-country connection](https://vpnrank.io/blog/how-to-watch-fubo-from-abroad.png) [Fubo](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/streaming/fubotv) does not work outside the country your plan is sold in, and its help centre says so directly: "If you are traveling outside these areas, you will not be able to watch Fubo." A US plan covers the [United States](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/us) and its territories, a Canadian plan covers Canada, and Fubo's help centre adds that it cannot be used through a VPN. This guide, checked against Fubo's own help pages on 6 October 2026, explains the four location checks Fubo runs, what changes when you travel inside the US, what the 2026 plans cost after the $15 rise, and the official ways to follow US sport from abroad. ## Fubo works only in the country your plan is sold in, and says so in its help centre Fubo runs separate services for the United States, [Canada](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/canada) and Spain. The US help centre's travel article says Fubo "is available in the United States and its territories. If you are traveling outside these areas, you will not be able to watch Fubo." The Canadian version of the same article makes the mirror-image rule: "if you are traveling outside Canada, you will not be able to watch Fubo." So a US subscriber cannot watch in Toronto, and a Canadian subscriber cannot watch in New York. US territories count as home for a US plan. Fubo's local-channel list includes stations in Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands, so a trip to San Juan is a domestic trip as far as Fubo is concerned. Anywhere else, including Mexico, the Caribbean outside the US territories and every cruise port abroad, is outside the licence. > Practical rule:Treat Fubo as a home-country service. Abroad, plan around the league's own international product, such as NFL Game Pass on DAZN or NBA League Pass, rather than around your Fubo login. ## Fubo checks four different things about where you are, and only one switches it off ![Diagram of Fubo's four location rules: the country you are in (US plans work only in the US and its territories), where you are inside the US (local channels follow your current location), your home ZIP code (regional sports networks travel but devices must check in from home every 30 days), and how many places your TVs are in (TV devices stream from one location at a time); plus the Home Network rule that VPN and proxy connections cannot be set as home](https://vpnrank.io/enrich/fubo-abroad/what-fubo-checks.png) Fubo's location rules, from its help centre articles. Read 6 October 2026. Verified October 2026. - **Country:** outside the US and its territories (or Canada, for a Canadian plan), Fubo does not play at all. - **Your current location inside the US:** local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations "will not travel with you". You get the locals for wherever you are streaming. - **Your home ZIP code:** regional sports networks follow your home ZIP, and "any devices you use outside of your home area must be 'checked in' from your home area at least once per 30 days". - **Your TV devices:** Fire TV, [Roku](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/roku), [Apple TV](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/apple-tv), Android TV, Xbox and smart TVs can stream "from one location at a time"; phones and web browsers can stream from several places at once. Behind those sits the [Home Network](https://vpnrank.io/blog/do-you-need-a-vpn-at-home). Fubo says it can only be set "on a network connected to a residential internet service provider", that "only one network can be designated as your 'home' network", and that networks which cannot be set as home "can include any networks using a [Virtual Private Network](https://vpnrank.io/blog/what-is-a-vpn-and-how-does-it-work) (VPN) or other proxy connection, or public/shared connections". Current US plans allow 10 simultaneous streams on the Home Network plus 3 more on phones or browsers elsewhere. ## Fubo's VPN error is explicit, while its terms ban bypassing access restrictions Fubo's help centre quotes the exact message a VPN user sees: *"Your [IP address](https://vpnrank.io/glossary/ip-address) cannot be used to access Fubo content. If you are using a VPN or other kind of proxy service, please disable it. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care."* Its troubleshooting article adds that "Fubo can't be accessed using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)" and that with one "you'll either see an error message, or the Fubo app will not load completely". Other symptoms it lists are a black screen when the app launches and an empty My Account page. The Terms of Service, effective 10 September 2025, never use the words VPN or proxy. Section 7(h) instead forbids "accessing any Content on the Services through any technology or means other than those provided or authorized by the Services" and "bypassing the measures we may use to prevent or restrict access to the Services". The help centre is where Fubo names VPNs; the terms are where it reserves the right to act on them. ## Inside the US, travelling changes your local channels and your Sunday NFL games Most Fubo travel questions are domestic: a Clevelander in New York, or a Bay Area fan on a work trip to Denver. The rules are different for each kind of channel, and none of them needs a VPN. | Channel type | What happens when you travel in the US | Fubo's wording | What it doesn't tell you | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Local stations (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) | You get the stations of the area you are in | "If you're traveling outside the coverage area... you'll see the local channels for the area where you're currently located" | That every market has every network: NBC affiliates were still rolling out in August 2026 | | Regional sports networks | They travel, tied to your home ZIP code | Devices must have logged in "from your home area within the last month" | How quickly a device is blocked after day 30 | | National channels (ESPN, FS1, CBS Sports Network) | Work anywhere in the US | "You can watch these games no matter where you are in the U.S." | Blackouts: a national game shown on your local channel is blacked out on the national network | | Sunday afternoon NFL on CBS and FOX | You see the games assigned to the area you are in, not your home market | "The region you're currently in determines the games available" | Which game that will be; it is set by the networks each week | | Team-specific RSNs such as Marquee | Blacked out outside the network's own coverage area | "Live coverage of Chicago Cubs games will be blacked out outside of Marquee's normal coverage area" | Blackout rules are set by leagues and networks, not by Fubo | Source: Fubo help centre articles on local channels, regional sports, out-of-market games and blackouts (updated September 2025 to October 2026), read 6 October 2026. Verified October 2026. ## Fubo in 2026: Disney owns 70%, NBC is back, and every TV plan costs $15 more Disney combined [Hulu](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/hulu) + Live TV with Fubo in a deal announced on 6 January 2025 and closed on 29 October 2025. Disney owns about 70% and Fubo's previous shareholders about 30%, the company still trades as FuboTV Inc., and Fubo and [Hulu](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/watch-hulu-from-canada) + Live TV remain separate services. Alisa Bowen replaced co-founder David Gandler as chief executive on 10 July 2026. NBCUniversal's channels left Fubo in November 2025 and returned under a deal announced on 10 June 2026, and Fubo tied a price rise to that return. ![Bar chart of Fubo's US monthly prices before and after the 2026 increase: Fubo Sports 55.99 to 64.99 dollars, Pro, Core and Essential 73.99 to 88.99, Elite and Ultra 83.99 to 98.99, Ultimate 98.99 to 113.99, Deluxe 103.99 to 118.99; Canada's Sports plan costs C$31.49 a month](https://vpnrank.io/enrich/fubo-abroad/fubo-plan-prices.png) Fubo US prices from its help centre article on the 2026 increase (updated 15 June 2026). The new price applies in each area when NBCUniversal's channels arrive there. Verified October 2026. | Plan | Monthly price | What Fubo says it includes | Caveat | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Fubo Sports (Sports + News) | $64.99 | ESPN Unlimited included; select markets only | An RSN can be added through My Local Sports, launched 29 September 2026, priced per market | | Pro, Core, Essential | $88.99 | Unlimited DVR, unlimited screens at home, regional MLB, NHL and NBA where available | Core is offered only in select markets | | Elite, Ultra | $98.99 | Adds 4K, Fubo Extra and News Plus | Ultra is offered only in select markets | | Regional Sports Fee | Up to $16.99 | Charged on plans that include RSNs; $15.99 in the four NBC Sports regions | Fubo says it "cannot be removed" on those plans | | Fubo Canada Sports | C$31.49 a month, C$83.97 a quarter, C$294.00 a year | Premier League, Serie A, Coppa Italia; DAZN add-on for Champions League and Bundesliga | Canada's entertainment plans ended on 30 April 2026 | Source: Fubo help centre plan, price-change, Regional Sports Fee and Canadian plan articles; Fubo press release of 29 September 2026. Taxes extra. Read 6 October 2026. Verified October 2026. Two further numbers matter for a trip. Cloud DVR recordings are unlimited but "will remain on your Cloud DVR for 9 months", and Fubo's help centre documents no way to download recordings for offline viewing, so a recording is not something you can take onto a plane. ## What's on Fubo this autumn, and what isn't | Sport | On Fubo | Not on Fubo | What it doesn't settle | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | NFL | Sunday Night Football on NBC; Monday Night Football on ESPN (sometimes ABC or ESPN2); Sunday afternoon CBS and FOX games for your area; [NFL](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nfl) RedZone with the Sports Plus add-on | Thursday Night Football, which "streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video" | Which regional games your area gets each Sunday | | NBA 2026-27 | National games on ABC (where available), ESPN, ESPN2 and NBA TV, plus team RSNs | [Prime Video](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/prime-video)'s 66 games; Fubo's [NBA](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nba) article does not list NBC or NBCSN, which carry 100 national games with Peacock | Whether NBC's NBA games will be added; the season opens on 20 October on NBC and Peacock | | College football | ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, ACC Network and others; ACC Network Extra and SEC Network+ since 26 August 2026 | Games exclusive to other streaming services | Some channels need Fubo Extra or Sports Plus | | Soccer | [Premier League](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/premier-league) on NBC and NBCSN; MLS on ESPN and FS1; Ligue 1 on beIN SPORTS; Serie A and the Champions League on CBS and CBS Sports Network | Matches exclusive to standalone services | Which plan carries each channel | Source: Fubo help centre sport articles (updated September and October 2026) and nba.com's 2026-27 broadcast guide (13 August 2026), read 6 October 2026. Verified October 2026. ## Abroad, the leagues' own international passes cover more than Fubo does at home The inversion surprises most travelling Americans: the leagues sell their international products only outside the US, and they are often more complete than any American bundle. - **NFL Game Pass on DAZN:** sold in more than 200 markets, "outside of the US and China", with every game live, NFL RedZone and NFL Network. DAZN notes that "some blackout restrictions apply in the United Kingdom and Ireland". - **NBA League Pass:** available globally except Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria and occupied parts of Ukraine, according to the NBA's help centre. - **Not EU portability:** the EU rule that lets subscriptions travel inside Europe, Regulation (EU) 2017/1128, covers services lawfully provided in an EU member state. It does not reach a US or Canadian Fubo plan. Our [2026 NFL season guide](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nfl/2026-season) covers Game Pass country by country, and the [NBA page](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nba) covers League Pass. If you also pay for a US streaming service with its own travel rules, see our guides to [YouTube TV abroad](https://vpnrank.io/blog/watch-youtube-tv-from-abroad), [Hulu outside the US](https://vpnrank.io/blog/how-to-watch-hulu-outside-the-us) and [ESPN abroad](https://vpnrank.io/blog/how-to-watch-espn-plus-from-abroad). ## What the nine VPN providers' own sites say about Fubo Five providers publish a Fubo page, and two of them warn in the same breath that Fubo blocks VPN addresses. We searched each provider's help centre and website on 6 October 2026; this is what they claim, not what we tested. | Provider | Fubo page on its own site | What it says | What it doesn't automatically prove | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | ExpressVPN | Yes | "Fubo works best when your device is connected to the U.S. VPN server location that's closest to you physically"; says it should not be used for copyright circumvention | That Fubo's VPN check will not show its IP error | | CyberGhost | Yes | Choose a US server; "Fubo blocks some VPNs"; using another country's server "is against our terms of service" | Which servers work on a given day | | PIA | Yes | "Fubo is known for blocking IP addresses it suspects of belonging to VPNs"; using a server in another country "goes against our terms of service" | Same caveat | | Proton VPN | Yes, support page | Streaming needs a paid plan; Fubo "is known to aggressively block IP addresses associated with free VPN servers" | Same caveat | | PureVPN | Blog posts | "Connect to a US server" | Its Fubo posts quote out-of-date prices, such as Pro at $74.99 | | NordVPN | Help article only | Lists Fubo TV among services supported by its SmartDNS feature, which "may not work with all of the streaming services" | That SmartDNS gets past Fubo's Home Network or IP checks | | Surfshark | No Fubo page found | Only a general streaming troubleshooting article | Nothing either way | | IPVanish | No Fubo page found | Nothing about Fubo | Nothing either way | | TotalVPN | No Fubo page found | Nothing about Fubo | Nothing either way | Source: each provider's website and help-centre search, read 6 October 2026. We did not test any provider against Fubo. Verified October 2026. Put next to Fubo's own statement that it "can't be accessed using a Virtual Private Network", the honest reading is that a VPN is a privacy tool on this trip, not a Fubo tool. On hotel and airport Wi-Fi, connect to a server in the country you are in and keep Fubo for when you are home. ## Before you fly: four things to do at home 1. **Check in your devices from home.** Open Fubo on every phone, tablet and laptop you are taking while on your home network, so the 30-day regional sports clock starts fresh for when you come back. 2. **Sort out live sport abroad separately.** Buy NFL Game Pass on DAZN or NBA League Pass once you are outside the US; neither is sold to US viewers at home. 3. **Don't count on recordings.** Cloud DVR recordings stay for 9 months but Fubo documents no offline download, so they stay in the cloud until you are back. 4. **Leave the home TV alone.** If family members stream on the home TV while you are away, that is fine: the one-location limit applies to TV devices, and phones and browsers in the US can stream from several places. ## When Fubo won't play: what you see and what to do | What you see | What it means | What to do | What it doesn't automatically prove | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Fubo won't load outside the US | Your plan's country rule | Use the league's international product; Fubo returns when you are back | That your account has a problem | | "Your IP address cannot be used to access Fubo content" | Fubo has detected a VPN or proxy | Disable the VPN, as Fubo's own message asks | That you are abroad: it also appears at home with a VPN on | | Black screen or empty My Account page | Fubo lists both as signs of a VPN or proxy | Disable the VPN and restart the app | That the app needs reinstalling | | Your home regional sports network is missing on a trip | The device has not checked in from home in 30 days | Open Fubo on that device at home before travelling | That the RSN has left your plan | | "Streaming from too many locations" | Two TV devices in different places at once | Stop one of them, or use a phone or browser | That someone has your password | | Different local channels and NFL games | Locals follow where you are in the US | Nothing: it is how Fubo works | That your home market has changed | Error wording from Fubo's help centre, read 6 October 2026. Verified October 2026. ## The bottom line for travellers Fubo is built to stay at home: it stops outside the US (or Canada, for a Canadian plan), it says it cannot be used through a VPN, and its regional sports need a home check-in every 30 days. Inside the US it travels well, with local channels switching to wherever you are. Abroad, the better plan is the league's own international pass, which for NFL and NBA fans is often more complete than what Fubo carries at home. Keep reading [Best VPN for NFL](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nfl) [Best VPN for NBA](https://vpnrank.io/best-vpn/sports/nba) ## Frequently asked questions Can I watch Fubo outside the US? No. Fubo's help centre says it is available in the United States and its territories, and "if you are traveling outside these areas, you will not be able to watch Fubo." Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands count as home for a US plan. Does Fubo work with a VPN? Fubo says no. Its help centre states "Fubo can't be accessed using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)", and the error reads "Your IP address cannot be used to access Fubo content. If you are using a VPN or other kind of proxy service, please disable it." VPN connections also cannot be set as your Home Network. Can I use my US Fubo account in Canada? No. Canada is outside the US and its territories, so a US plan will not play there. Fubo Canada is a separate service with its own plans, and it has the mirror rule: a Canadian plan does not work outside Canada. Do my local channels work when I travel in the US? Local channels follow where you are, not where you live: in New York you get New York's ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations. Regional sports networks follow your home ZIP code, as long as each device has checked in from your home area within the last 30 days. How much does Fubo cost in 2026? After the 2026 increase tied to NBCUniversal's return, Pro, Core and Essential cost $88.99 a month, Elite and Ultra $98.99, and the Fubo Sports plan $64.99, plus a Regional Sports Fee of up to $16.99 on plans with RSNs and taxes. Fubo Canada's Sports plan is C$31.49 a month. Can I download Fubo recordings to watch on a plane? Fubo's help centre documents no offline download for Cloud DVR recordings. Recordings are unlimited and stay for 9 months, but they play from the cloud. How do I watch the NFL abroad if Fubo doesn't work? Through NFL Game Pass on DAZN, which is sold in more than 200 markets outside the US and China and includes every game live, NFL RedZone and NFL Network. Some blackouts apply in the UK and Ireland.
